A coward cannot have his prayers answered
Employ the
strategy of the Lotus Sutra before any other. Then, just as the sutra says, "All
enemies are crushed." These golden words will never prove false. Believe
them wholeheartedly. The heart of strategy and swordsmanship derives from the
Mystic Law. A coward cannot have any of his prayers answered.

The fifth
volume of the Maka Shikan states:
"As practice progresses and understanding grows, the three obstacles and
four devils emerge, vying with one another to interfere." It also states:
"A wild boar scraping a gold mountain only makes it glitter, rivers
flowing into an ocean increase its volume, fuel added to fire only makes it
burn higher, and the wind inflates the body of the gura." --On The Buddha`s

The strategy of the Lotus Sutra
A sword will be useless in the hands of a
coward. The mighty sword of the Lotus Sutra must be wielded by one courageous
in faith. Then he will be as strong as a demon armed with an iron staff. I, Nichiren,
have inscribed my life in sumi, 4
so believe in the Gohonzon with your whole heart. The Buddha's will is the
Lotus Sutra, but the soul of Nichiren is nothing other than
Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.
